Impasse

Impasse is a situation in which no progress is possible, especially because of disagreement. The sliced sculptures are representational of how individuals naturally examine parts of a situation to seek a compromise. While the painting and scrimshaw pieces are representational of an individual’s growth once they have made peace with the unresolvable situation. The multimedia pieces were created with resin, bone and metal because these materials are naturally resistant to malleability. Impasse asks the viewers to consider how much of themselves they give to a situation they can not control. 

Impasse was a solo show created by De La Cruz in 2023 at fourteenfifteen gallery in Barelas, ABQ, NM.
